Aquatic Control Engineering (ACE) installs flood defences and infrastructure across the UK. As the business grew into larger main contractor work, the risks grew with it. A previous incident – an excavator break-in with fuel stolen, and an attempted break-in into a welfare cabin, underlined the stakes; not only equipment loss, but project delays, operational disruption and insurance complications.
With multiple projects running simultaneously in the Doncaster and Goole area, and clients unwilling to leave significant equipment on site overnight due to theft and vandalism risk, the business needed a credible deterrent – the priority was prevention, not reaction.
DeterTech provided a solution using PIDs (portable intrusion detection units), rotated across sites of concern. To empower the ACE team, DeterTech’s engineer deployed to the first site as usual, demonstrating installation and set-up protocols, before handing over to the ACE team to manage subsequent moves in-house as and when desired – notifying DeterTech’s alarm receiving centre (ARC) for monitoring each time. Detection units were positioned in such a way as to maintain line-of-sight coverage of welfare cabins on constrained sites. Prominent deterrent signage was also installed at site entrances.
There have been no theft or vandalism incidents across the sites since the solution was implemented. The rotating deployment model balances risk with cost and logistical overhead. Response from the ARC has been immediate: when a supervisor moved a unit without notifying the centre, ACE received a call within seconds, proving the system’s real time monitoring.
As the business continues to take on more main contracting work, the flexibility to move coverage between sites without additional survey visits or setup costs positions DeterTech as a practical long-term partner rather than a one-off hire.
