Miles, Movements and Moustaches for Men’s Mental Health – How DeterTech is helping raise awareness

This November, DeterTech is stepping forward with purpose. Men’s mental health matters, and as a team we are choosing to take action in a way that feels true to our culture. We innovate, we challenge ourselves, and we show up for one another. That same spirit is driving a group of colleagues who have committed to bold, personal challenges throughout the month.

Across the business, each participant is taking on something different, but the goal is the same. Raise awareness. Support open conversations. And help break down the barriers that still stop too many men from speaking up when they are struggling.

Here are what some of our colleagues are doing to raise awareness this month:

For Andy Kenyon, the challenge is all about consistency. He has committed to completing 7 km of exercise every single day in November, no matter the weather, schedule or fatigue. Whether he is running before dawn, squeezing in a cycle at lunch or taking on an evening stroll, Andy is showing how movement can be a powerful way to support mental wellbeing. It is not just the distance that matters, but the discipline and mindset behind it.

Adam Birkitt is taking on a challenge built around strength and routine. Each day he is completing 7 reps of 7 different movements. Simple on paper, demanding in practice. His goal is to demonstrate that looking after ourselves does not always require huge gestures. Sometimes it is the daily commitment to small, intentional actions that makes the difference.

Meanwhile, several members of our sales team have united behind one of the most widely recognised men’s health campaigns. Dan Skinner, Jak Edwards, James Silson, Matt Uttley, Alex Jones and Mark Kubis-Law are all growing moustaches for Movember and raising money for Men Who Talk. A bit of humour, a lot of determination, and a shared aim to spark conversations that might not happen otherwise.

And then there is Tom Curtis, whose challenge is on a scale that most people will never experience. Tom is preparing to take on the world’s toughest row, a 3,000 mile unsupported race across the Atlantic Ocean. Starting in La Gomera and finishing in Antigua, the route is known for its brutal conditions, relentless waves and the extreme physical and mental resilience it demands. Tom is undertaking this extraordinary journey to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society, highlighting the connection between wellbeing and the natural world. His row is a reminder that mental health is not just about strength. It is about endurance, vulnerability and finding purpose in something bigger than ourselves.

Together, these challenges represent more than miles, movements or moustaches. They symbolise a commitment to breaking the stigma around men’s mental health and showing that anyone, in any role, can champion positive change. At DeterTech we are proud of the colleagues who are stepping up, speaking out and putting their energy on the line for such an important cause.

Throughout November we will be sharing updates, stories and reflections from across the team as they progress through their challenges. We hope their efforts inspire others to take the first step, start a conversation or reach out for support when it is needed most.

Men’s mental health matters. This month and every month, we stand together to make a difference.
