SmartWater cuts repeat domestic abuse by 22%

At DeterTech, we are proud to see new independent research confirming the positive impact of our SmartWater forensic marking technology in tackling domestic abuse.

The College of Policing has reported that repeat incidents of domestic abuse have been cut by 22% when SmartWater is deployed in victims’ homes. Hidden devices can spray or tag perpetrators with SmartWater if they attempt to attack, harass, or breach court orders. The unique forensic signature remains detectable on skin for up to six weeks and on clothing for years, enabling police to prove offenders were at a victim’s property and support prosecutions.

Nearly half of victims in the trial reported no further unwanted contact from their abuser, with many also saying the technology gave them increased feelings of safety and confidence to resume everyday activities. Police officers praised the scheme not only for protecting victims but also for reducing demand on the justice system.
