Derbyshire Police are the latest UK police force to adopt the use of SmartWater technology to deter and detect instances of stalking and domestic violence.
High risk victims in Chesterfield and Erewash will be the first to receive SmartWater home kits and SmartTag forensic spray, before the rollout is extended our across the county.
Derbyshire Constabulary are just one of many police forces in the UK that have partnered with DeterTech to help protect vulnerable women and girls from domestic violence.
SmartWater forensic marking technology has been successfully used in both West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire police forces, with West Yorkshire securing the first conviction using the forensic marking system last year when a man was jailed for breaching a non-molestation order.
The strategy with West Yorkshire Police was also a finalist in the 2023 Tilley Awards, which celebrates successful projects that have resolved issues faced by the police, partners and/or the community.
On the partnership with Derbyshire Police, Gary Higgins, DeterTech UK's Director of Commercial Operations said: “We are delighted to be supporting Derbyshire police with this initiative, using our SmartWater forensic marking solutions.
“The opportunity to help provide a level of protection to those directly affected by stalking and domestic abuse and making someone feel safer in their own home is something we are very proud of. SmartWater maintains a 100% conviction rate in contested court cases, powerful proof of our effectiveness in linking perpetrators to the scene of their crime.
“At DeterTech UK our purpose is to provide greater peace of mind to people and communities every day.
“We look forward to this initiative making a positive difference to the daily lives of many victims of stalking and domestic abuse.”
